C. Edward Hayes

C. Edward Hayes has been an independent consultant specializing in research into textile and fiber markets since 1981. He is and has worked as a Textile Engineer.

Hayes has extensive experience in market research and in the design, marketing and sales of fibers and textiles in apparel, home furnishings and industrial markets:

Apparel

Hayes has prepared proprietary and multi-client market research reports covering many US apparel businesses since the inception of his consulting business. He was merchandise manager for nonwoven interlinings at WestPoint. Hayes was a pioneer double knit salesman at Milliken. He was an early player in stretch fabrics. His sales work at Milliken led to the creation of a new warp stretch woven fabric business. His market research facilitated development of stretch nylon and spandex businesses at Monsanto. Hayes continued to participate in spandex and stretch fabrics as a consultant.

Home textiles

Hayes has published proprietary and multi-client market research reports of US home textile markets for 20 years. Hayes researched markets and developed home textile base fabrics at WestPoint’s Industrial Fabrics Division, where his work led to a new upholstery fabric business.

Carpet & Rug

Hayes published a study of the World Carpet & Rug Business in 2006. It included comparisons of the costs of producing carpet and carpet yarn and fiber in various important countries. Hayes authored semi-annual market research reports of the US carpet industry and participated in the development of new artificial turf and carpet backing at Monsanto and the development of a carpet backing business at WestPoint.

Technical Industrial

Hayes has authored proprietary market research reports for fiber and textile companies since the inception of his consulting business. He was Director of Product Planning and Development for WestPoint’s Industrial Fabrics Division and was responsible for profit centers in dyeing and finishing, woven filter fabrics and nonwoven fabrics. Hayes authored annual reports of the tire industry; his work became the basis for Monsanto’s computer model.

Fibers

Hayes has consulted for producers of both man-made and natural fibers. He was Market Research Manager and Manager of International Market Research for Monsanto’s fiber division, where he participated in studies in Canada, Europe and Japan to determine the feasibility of new acrylic and nylon fiber plants.
